It’s been said that developer’s personal blogs usually see more redesigns than actual posts. I’ve not kept a blog for over ten years; will I buck that trend, or conform?
So why write a blog? Why write a blog in the age of social media?
Well, I like them. It’s a nice space for a slower paced bit of amateur writing. Maybe I’ll jot things down here so I remember them. Maybe I’ll look back at this in years to come and be reminded of where my head was in 2025. I don’t know, but I’m game.
I’m using Astro because it is something I’m keen to investigate a bit more. I’ve tried a number of SSGs over the years and would like to explore the slightly more interesting space Astro is growing into. There is a fair bit of magic in SSGs, and the more explicit (but still pretty friendly) features Astro offers look decent.
Hosting is via Cloudflare Pages because it’s super simple and free.
I’m a web engineer by trade; I’ve worked in various website roles, on the frontend and the backend, often both at the same time. But one thing I’ve always hated is CSS, and since I wanted to use this build as an opportunity to become less of a massive LLM skeptic, I asked Copilot to style it for me.
And actually, it did a decent enough job, for now at least. Good boy.
